Why Our Diversity Commitment is More Important Than Ever

Diversity has always been an important part of The Panther Group. We are minority-owned and certified. Diversity is at the heart of our business, not just a box to check off on a form. The Panther Group is committed to diversity and respect and to empowering our employees and clients as individuals. Here is why now is the time to make diversity a priority.

Diversity is a Competitive Advantage

Diversity recruitment builds a strong and varied workforce. It goes beyond dutifully meeting legal requirements. It creates a positive impact on both business and the community, building a more positive future for both. When you bring together people with different viewpoints and experiences, your organization becomes more innovative and creative. Evaluate your recruiting and hiring process to ensure that your attempts to build a cohesive culture doesn’t instead make your company exclusionary.

Awareness is Increasing

Even those who did not recognize a lack of diversity as an issue are now paying attention. People are reluctant to work or do business with companies where they feel they don’t belong. If it appears that no one in the company looks or thinks like them, why would they choose you? There are plenty of companies that won’t hesitate to make them feel comfortable. Don’t make the mistake of resorting to tokenism. People of all races, genders, nationalities, etc., must be an integral part of your team.

Diversity Begins at the Top

Leadership sets the tone. Evaluate both the makeup and the attitude of your leadership team. You will make your company a better place to work and be more profitable. A study by management consulting firm McKinsey & Company revealed the following diversity data:

  • Companies in the top-quartile for gender diversity on their executive teams were 21% more likely to have above-average profitability than companies in the fourth quartile.
  • Those with ethnic/culturally diverse executives were 33% more likely to outperform on profitability.
  • Companies with the most ethnically/culturally diverse executive representation are 33% more likely to outperform their peers on profitability.
  • Companies with the most ethnically/culturally diverse boards worldwide are 43% more likely to experience higher profits.

Diversity is Ongoing

Don’t underestimate how difficult it is to become a truly diverse company. You must root out your own implicit bias and be vigilant about not allowing it to creep back into your behaviors and decision-making process. Develop a culture where people are encouraged to recognize their own privilege and call out others in a constructive way if they detect bias creep.

Diversity is not something you can ever mark as “done.”
