Were You Just Laid Off? Here Are Some Things You Can Do Immediately

Being unemployed can be a difficult and stressful time, but it also provides an opportunity to focus on personal and professional development. Here are a few ways to make the most of this time:

7 Things You Can Do Immediately In Preparation for A New Job

1. Learn a new skill:

Use this time to pick up a new skill or improve upon an existing one. Consider taking an online course or attending a workshop to enhance your knowledge and add to your skill set.

2. Network:

Connect with people in your industry or people who have the jobs you aspire to have. Attend events, join professional organizations, and reach out to people in your network. This will help you stay connected to the industry and increase your chances of finding a new job.

3. Volunteer:

Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community, meet new people, and gain valuable experience in a new field.

4. Read and stay informed:

Keep up with the latest news and developments in your field. Read books, articles, and publications related to your industry. Stay informed about the job market and the industries that interest you.

5. Start a side hustle!:

If you have a great idea for a business or have a passion for a certain type of hobby, use this time to research and develop it. You may be able to turn your passion into a viable money-making opportunity. While you’re interviewing drive for Uber, Instacart or others to bring in some money while you find the right next step not just go to any jobs that are available.

6. Be open to different ways of working:

At The Panther Group, one of the most successful ways we’ve seen job seekers find and start new careers or expand their options is through contract-to-hire opportunities.  This type of work can put you in new opportunities that may be just the spark you need to kick your career off in the right direction.  While we also have direct roles, temporary and completely contract roles, contract-to-hire can let you get to know a company (and them, you) before committing to staying with the company long term!

Why Apply Through Panther?

Remember, being unemployed is not a reflection of your worth as a person or your abilities as a professional. It’s an opportunity to reevaluate your goals and make positive changes in your life. So, use this time wisely and invest in yourself!

When you apply for a role that’s been posted on the Panther career portal or by our team on other sites like Indeed, we make sure that you are the right fit for the role and get to know you instead pushing you into a job that is not a great fit.  The last thing we want to do is put you and our clients in a position where the employment arrangement isn’t a good fit.  Our goal is to build real partnerships with our clients and job seekers.

Once we have your resume and your preferences for work, we may be able to line you up with a job that is available and matches your skill set, goals and experience.  If not, we won’t press you into a bad fit. When the right role comes along, we may send you a notification that a role that may match you is available.

What makes The Panther Group the ideal career partner? We focus on what you want most from your career! Choose the flexibility of contract work, make smarter choices with contract-to-hire, or further your career in direct-hire roles.
