Why Is It So Hard To Find Top Professional Talent?

Quick question:

Has your HR department found it a bit difficult to find highly-qualified individuals who fit well within your organization?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. According to a recent study conducted by Monster, 67% of recruiters say it’s harder than ever for them to find top-level talent nowadays.

In other words, more than two-thirds of companies are stuck settling for talent that’s…well…less than ideal.

Obviously, the main downside to this is that the company’s performance as a whole suffers. This goes without saying.

But it’s also worth mentioning that less-than-stellar talent also typically doesn’t stick around in one spot for very long (for one reason or another). Whether they end up leaving on their terms or on yours, the fact remains that your company will continue to suffer as you invest even more resources into finding another replacement.

Finally, the simple fact is that if your company isn’t scooping up the best available talent, your competitors probably are. So, not only will your company suffer from not having top-tier talent in the first place, but you’ll also end up falling way behind your competition as well.

At any rate, let’s now talk about why it’s so difficult to find high-quality talent by today’s standards.

Why is it So Hard to Find Top Professional Talent?

The reason it’s so difficult for recruiters to find top-tier talent today is threefold:

1. A Growing Economy

First of all, the rapid growth the economy has recently experienced has led many companies to create more and more open positions. While this sounds all well and good, the problem is that the supply of qualified individuals has not grown with the economy. Unfortunately, this means that many companies across the country that are otherwise ready to scale are unable to, as the manpower required to do so simply isn’t available in the first place.

2. Lots of Options for Job Seekers

On the other side of this equation, because there are more open jobs to choose from, top-level candidates basically have their pick. There’s nothing wrong with this, of course: they’ve worked hard to become the best candidates in their field, so they deserve to be able to follow their professional dreams as they see fit.

Now, this isn’t to say that your company isn’t “worthy” of top-tier talent, or anything like that.

3. Recruiting Is More Difficult

But it does bring us to our final point, which is that recruiting has become more competitive than ever.

That said, the organizations that do end up “winning” the top talent are those that:

1. Offer value to their team members that truly matters to them

2. Have a strategic approach to recruiting

3. Understand how marketing your organization factors into play

So, while your organization may offer everything your ideal candidate looks for in a place of employment, it’s equally important that you know how to reach out to and engage with these individuals, and can bring them aboard quickly and efficiently.
